Our passion is to provide the best care to our soil. Healthy soil produces healthy plants for humans and animals alike. Essential trace minerals lacking in most commercial products today can be reclaimed in the soil by working with nature the way God intended. By starting at the source, we believe you get the most nutritious vegetable, meat and dairy products possible.
Ever wish you could own your own milk cow? Is making your own butter, cheese and yogurt on your bucket list? Are you lacking the space, time and energy to do it all?
We’ve got you covered.
Our homesteading adventure started in 2015 on 1.3 acres at the end of a cul-de-sac. We purchased our very first doeling, Mama, intended to be our family milk goat and our first mini pig, Domino. Thus Compass Rose Homestead was born. At that time, we started experimenting with different styles of gardening. Straw bale, hugelkultur, lasagna, raised beds, traditionally tilled and container to name a few.
With each passing year, our gardens improved, our herds grew as did our need to find a more suitable farm. In August 2021, we were blessed with the opportunity to move to a home with more acreage. The hardpan red clay and soil that had been traditionally farmed for decades pushed our skills and knowledge to their limits. Today, we are still working on healing the land by building topsoil and nurturing soil biomes. It’s a slow process, but oh so worth it.
At our 1800’s teaching farm, acquired in 2022, you’re able to come alongside us while we show you how you can take some basic concepts and implement them on your own farm. We aim to educate willing students in all of our hard learned lessons in order to pole vault them to success. We are, afterall, a community pulling together, cheering each other on, sharing in our victories and in our defeats. You don’t have to do it alone.
Come join us.
