Our kiddos have been a huge part of our farming journey. As we have gone along, each one has taken charge of one area of the farm. From chickens and rabbits to goats and cows, these kids have never backed down from a challenge or new adventure. Along the way they have learned a myriad of skills coupled with a work ethic and integrity that rivals some adults. I couldn’t be prouder of each of them, to say the least. I’m so thankful they in every single one of my favorite memories.

Sometimes you just know.
In kindergarten when the teacher asked the age old question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Vicki responded “a rancher”. Now at that time in her 5 year old head that meant riding horses all day and playing with animals. If you have ever spent more than a minute on a ranch or a farm, you quickly realize the vision of a 5 year old girl was grossly skewed.
Nonetheless, a few decades later the dream that was birthed so many years before took shape, albeit in a completely different way. Vicki is now a Certified Permaculture Designer and co-owner in Compass Rose Homestead. Her passion for playing with animals still reigns supreme, only rivaled by her passion for teaching others what she’s learned through the decades of blood, sweat and tears. Teaching her 8 children in an agricultural focused homeschool was the perfect precursor to bringing her knowledge to the general public.
Beware! By attending any of her classes you will likely catch her infectious enthusiasm for homesteading and self-sufficient living in an ecologically friendly manner.

Growing up running through the Mississippi woods in his formidable teenage years, Todd has always enjoyed the great outdoors. Hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and working in his family's gardens were some of his favorites.
After High School, Todd joined the Marines where he traveled the world experiencing other cultures, climates and food. Once stationed stateside, he spent time as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, before leaving the military for the corporate world.
Earning his BA in Business, he later decided to study Lean 6 sigma and spent years helping corporations streamline their businesses to increase production and ultimately profitability. Todd brings his years of experience to the farm with a passion for preserving the ecosystems and maximizing farm resources.
